PNP Sets Security Measures To Protect Boracay vs Terror Acts

By Venus G. Villanueva

The Philippine National Police (PNP), Kalibo, Aklan is maintaining counter measures to protect Boracay Island, the prime tourist destination of the country, against possible terror attacks.
The newly–designated Provincial Director of the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) in Kalibo, Aklan, Benigno Durana, assured when asked as to the PNP’s campaign against terror acts that might spill over other areas in the country particularly Boracay Island.
PD Durana cited the synchronized efforts of the local and national officials for the public’s safety in the island and the implementation of the One Entry – One Exit Policy that will check the incoming and outgoing visitors in Boracay Island.
To fully protect the island, PD Durana said, "the PNP has existing security plans to preempt any terror attacks against tourists and the local population, a strengthened security system so people with ill motives will think twice before attacking their targets, and incident management in case unforeseen events transpire so normalcy in the island will be brought back after any incident or calamity.
"The ratio between the PNP and the residents and tourists in the island is ideal which is 1:500. Besides the PNP, the Maritime Group, the Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Army and Navy are also in Boracay and its vicinity to patrol and protect it, and to prevent any incident to happen there," Durana pointed out.
According to Durana, "the PNP has not monitored any terroristic plans involving Boracay, however, they are not letting their guards down."
"We always prepare for the worst. Any information affecting our peace and order situation, we address immediately," Durana stressed.
The new APPO Provincial Director Durana is impressed that Aklan has a stable peace and order situation, and very much manageable unlike other provinces./MPmailto:madyaas_pen@yahoo.com
