Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) Aklan joined the commemoration of the international day of desaparecidos recently.
Bayan-Aklan chairperson George Calaor said cases of disappearances continuously increase especially in the ranks of progressive and militant organizations.
"Our just and righteous demands for the basic right to life and equality under the Arroyo administration have now become a terrorist act. This is not just the rebirth of martial law but turning a ghost into monster," Calaor said in a statement.
Calaor stressed the militant group believes the Human Security Act of 2007 will worsen the scenario. The militant group believes the law provided a leeway for the Arroyo government to legalize their atrocities against those who continue to advance the people’s nationalist and democratic struggle.
"We are in great pain today as we think of how our comrades and loved ones are doing in the hands of Malacañang cohorts who pretend to be protectors of the people. But we must be brave - let us turn our grieving into strength to fight for the people’s cause," Calaor said.
Today, there are more than 200 victims of forced disappearances, including the abduction of militants Luisa Posa-Dominado and Nilo Abao-Arado on April 12 in Oton, Iloilo.
"The terror is felt everywhere that even here in Panay island, the wrath of the Arroyo administration has forcibly taken militant leaders from us and their loved ones," Calaor added. /MP
