Aklan Crimes
Are Manageable: Durana

There were 159 crime incidents which took place in Aklan as of July 2007, reported Sr. Supt. Benigno Durana, Jr., Aklan Provincial Police Director. Of these crime incidents recorded, 153 were investigated and considered solved. This indicates a 96.23 percent crime solution efficiency, a 1.3 percent increase over last year’s 94.93 percent.
The report further revealed that 98 or 61.4 percent are index crimes while 61 or 38.36 percent are non index crimes.

Boracay CCI

For its active involvement in Ecological Solid Waste Management and Environmental Protection Project, Boracay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) was awarded the “Most Outstanding Young Chamber Award” by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry. BCCI has partnered with the Canadian International Development Agency in this three year project. This project led to the construction of the first material recovery facility in Boracay.
Meanwhile, the BCCI has urged the Malay Sangguniang Bayan to draft and approve an ordinance that prohibits the use of the term “Bora” in all communication about Boracay Island resort.” Tourism industry is facing a strong challenge with the rampant use of Bora instead of Boracay in programs, activities, projects and shows, BCCI stressed. Boracay is part of Aklan and has its distinct cultural heritage. Boracay is always the name of the island”, BCCI pointed out. To change its name to Bora is a degradation replacing the name “Filipino” to “flip”, a derogatory term for Filipino.
Bora-bora is an island in French Polynesia which if Bora is used will confuse tourists, other travelers and even transportation company such as airlines and shipping lines. Boracay can never be Bora.

Nabas SB
Member Bares

She does not bare her body, but perhaps her programs for the next three years.
A press release from Ulysses V. Espartero reads: “SB Member Bares Programs For Nabas”. After reading the news release, I understood no program. The words used are hard to understand that one needs a dictionary to understand the message it portrays. Moreover, the news release is hollow of substance.
For example, it stated: “neophyte SB member Rhuna Flores-Tipgos recently bared her programs of action for the town of Nabas in the next three years…that she made the first step before anybody else’s not because of want by her office to absolve the glitters.” What program Espartero is talking about? The release should have contained objectives with specific targets, relevant, quantifiable and realistic on the standpoint of local legislation considering Hon. Tipgos belongs to the municipal legislative body.
Mr. Espartero could have used, by way of suggestions, the most understandable terms for easy enjoyable reading.

Health For Nabasnons

According to the news release, on top of her (Hon. Tipgos) priority is health for Nabasnons. It stated, “for us to be aware that health is the primordial concern of everybody, and lest we be the suspects for being the instigator of our people’s ill-health, let us then work to optimize the use of funds intended for their medicines and accounted to the last drop of every vial of the injectibles and to the last piece of tablet and capsule.”
Does this mean the immediate past local government of Nabas did not account the funds for health, and medicine?
For one thing, Hon. Tipgos “urged her fellow SB members not to make our peers used as the tool for anyone to open the avenue of benefits out of this funds.” What does Mr. Espartero mean when he wrote this line? Did the previous members of Nabas SB serve as tools of someone?
The worst is the indictment that housewives were not productive members of society as Espartero quoted Hon. Tipgos saying “there is a need to transform the housewives into productive members of the society.” This is serious imputation on the housewives. Filipinos are globally known as the best qualified house and child managers. They are even the first farmers and high farm producers. /MP
