ASU Trains Farmers Ginger Ale Powder Processing


Some 37 farmers, processors and entrepreneurs attended the Training on Ginger Ale Powder Processing on November 3, 2011 at Barangay Inyawan, Libertad, Antique.


The training was one of the components of the Science and Technology-Based Farm (STBF) on Ginger Ale Processing of Magsasaka Siyentista Neri A. Into.


STBF is a project in partnership with the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD), Western Visayas Agri-culture Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESVARRDEC), Aklan State University (ASU) as Partner Member Agency and LGU – Libertad Farmers Information and Technology Services (FITS) Center.


Dr. Anna Mae C. Relingo, Regional Techno Gabay Team Leader of WESVARRDEC and Officer-In-Charge of the Office of the Vice President for Research and Extension of ASU in her message, enlightened the participants on Techno Gabay Program.


She encouraged the participants from Barangay Inyawan and neighboring barangays to produce ginger as well as to process it into ginger ale powder and other by-products.


Dr. Clyde G. Abayon, Techno Gabay Team Leader and focal person briefed the participants on the background and objectives of STBF. She added that the project was supported by the team composed of Dr. Alma I. Irader, technical expert; Mrs. Elma D. Paulino, FITS Manager; and Mrs. Neri A. Into, Magsasaka Siyentista.


MS Neri and Dr. Irader shared with the participants the technology on ginger ale powder processing and other by-products like ginger balls and ginger jelly.


The training was also attended by the officials of Barangay Inyawan led by Barangay Captain Jeson Depuno, ASU-TG team composed of RMIS representative and Officer-In-Charge of ASU Research and Development Services, Dr. Lelisa J. Teodosio; RACG representative Sally R. Villasis and Officer-In-Charge of ASU-Extension and Community Services, Dr. Evelyn P. Vedasto. (by Sally R. Villasis) /MP
