Some 80 indigenous people of Sitio Nagpana, Brgy. Lipata, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo graduated in the season-long training on Integrated Farming System (IFS) with the theme “Development of Upland Area through Integrated Farming System,” February 18.
Through the season-long training, farmers are able to utilize their upland areas in the propagation of different high value commodities such as vegetables, banana and coffee.
The department of Agriculture (DA) 6 technical staff, Edgar C. Oyson, encouraged farmers of the indigenous group to conserve the abundant natural resources in order to maintain sustainability in both agricultural and community sectors.
“The learning you have gained from the three-month long IFS training should be communicated and shared to the larger community through proper implementation of technologies and cultural practices,” said Oyson.
Barotac Viejo Municipal Mayor Niel C. Tupas III announced that the roads of Sitio Nagpana will be concreted this year.
“This would ease the transportation and delivery of agricultural products and inputs from farm to market and vice versa,” stressed Mayor Tupas.
Representative from the Department of Education 6 had mentioned during the graduation regarding their proposal to implement the Alternative Learning System (ALS) through the DA’s School On-the-Air Program. /MP
