Kalibo, the Provincial capital is set to implement relevant and people-oriented projects designed to spur business, investments, stabilize growth and reduce poverty.

This is the main thrust of Mayor William S. Lachica, his goal for calendar year 2015. An aggregate sum of P64.2 million will be expended as capital improvement projects (CIP) for infra, health and education, capability building program and agriculture development.

Although the majority of funds will come from local taxation and Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA), 38 percent come from Kapitbisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive/Integrated Deliver of Social Servicers (Kapitbisig-CIDSS), an NGO working to empower rural folks and to build progressive communities.

Big ticket projects are the construction of health facilities with provision of equipments costing P2.5 million; core local road construction/maintenance/rehabilitation – P2.0 million; installation/construction of drainage canals – P3.5 million; construction/rehabilitation of government facilities/multi-purpose hall – P6.1 million; and loan repayment/purchase of heavy equipment – P2.8 million.

Kalahi-CIDSS has 11 priority projects costing a total of P24.63 million. It complements critical financial assistance such as repair of health center in Brgy. Estancia, concreting of Brgy. Road in Linabuan Norte, drainage canals in Old Buswang, Bakhao Sur and Brgy. Poblacion and construction/improvement of covered court/evacuation center in New Buswang.

Mr. Marlo B. Villanueva, MPDC said that there is on-going assessment of unfinished projects. The evaluation report will be available early in February this year. /MP
