THE GOOD LIFE

WHEN TEMPTED
by Megs S. Lunn

“God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13.

Where do you get your strength when you are tempted? What is your outlook when you see temptations?
The church says, temptation is not a sin. It becomes a sin only when you give in to the temptation. To surpass temptation is an opportunity for you to grow in character and conviction. Then you will continue to see the good things around.

Matthew 26:31 says, “The spirit is willing but the body is weak. So watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”

This is so true. During the election fever, temptations were left and right. Opportunities for money, fame and connections are overflowing. It is so fortunate that I have the presence of mind to utter a word for Him first, then to examine my conscience, then my spiritual advisers, then my mentor and back to my conscience again, in order to decide for the better.

It may not be the best decision for my professional career, but it was the best ever decision to have peace within, and a simpler and peaceful life. What did Bishop Cor Talaoc has to say during PANINDUGAN 2013, that according to the bible, “What if the man gain the whole world, but he loses his soul?”

We can’t keep away from temptation, but we have the power to resist it. And it is liberating once you conquer your fear to resist it. It is overwhelming when you can learn that you can actually get away with it. The art of life as the saying goes is when you are well tempted and have resisted it. The opportunity to be good is actually when you had the opportunity to be bad. This is where the test of character is stronger.

On the other hand, we need to welcome temptation for us to grow. Just be cautious and guard your heart, mind and soul. Self-control and self-discipline is the key to resisting temptation.

“It is a man’s own mind, not his enemy or foe that lures him to evil ways.”  ~Buddha /MP
