ASU Holds Community And Extension Services Review

The University Extension Program In-House-Review of the Aklan State University was held for two days, August 24-25, 2015 in the ASU Review Center, Banga, Aklan. Some 17 extension service projects were presented before a review panel.

The review panel is composed of three members. They are Engr. Roger M. Esto, provincial planning and development coordinator of the Province of Aklan; Dr. Benny M. Palma, former president of Aklan State University; and Dr. Ambrosio R. Villorente, former director of Agricultural Training Institute and now publisher/editor of Madyaas Pen.

The In-House Review started with the simple Opening Program. Prof. Alexander I. Ramos-director of Extension and Community Services (ECS) welcomed the project paper presenters, authors of extension projects papers and other participants. Ramos also introduced the members of the review panel. Dr. Danilo E. Abayon, ASU president, in his message welcomed the participants, authors of the project papers, and guests. He emphasized the importance of the In-House-Review program.

Mr. Rodel R. Leyson, ECS staff officer gave the mechanics of the presentation, while Miss Lovella Chris L. Palma served as Emcee of the In-House-Review.

The 17 papers on ASU extension program deal with its thrusts on food security, facilities and services modernization, forest and environmental conservation, disaster and health awareness/advocacy, renewable energy maximization, human capability building, tourism development and promotion, and gender development among others.

The ASU Extension and Communication Services aim to transfer knowledge and innovative technologies towards the improvement of the quality of life of the stakeholders. The ECS project papers reviewed were composed of completed extension projects, on-going-extension projects, and proposed extension projects. The projects presented were evaluated on the basis of: 1. Innovativeness, 2. Efficiency; 3. Sustainability, 5. Effectiveness, and 5. Significance.

The ECS projects concern with the strengthening of peoples organizations, ecological solid waste management, management information system, comprehensive community health program, rabies prevention and control, modeling organic vegetable farming system, integrated learning approach program for Mina-a Elementary School, tutorial program in Mathematics, empowering micro enterprise and PARAVET Program among others.

PARAVET is about the training and development of interested persons in the community on livestock care and production with special emphasis on rabies prevention. /MP
