The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Aklan has favorably endorsed to the Department of Public Works and Highways the conversion of the Tangalan-Jawili-Naisud Road into a national road to ensure its upgrading into national standards.

The provincial legislative body acted favorably on the request of Governor Florencio T. Miraflores for immediate conversion of the local road into a national highway.  The 12-kilometer stretch of the said road starting from Poblacion, Tangalan passing through Barangays Afga, Dumatad and Jawili, Tangalan and Barangays Bugtongbato and Naisud, Ibajay is currently being cemented with funding source from the DPWH and the Department of Tourism.

It is a major thoroughfare leading to important tourist attractions of the Province of Aklan like the 7-tierred Jawili Falls and the Jawili Beach, the natural mangrove plantation in Bugtongbato, Ibajay; the long coastline facing the Sibuyan Sea and the DENR’s forest reservation in Jawili.

Once classified as a national highway, the entire road stretch can be widened up to 20 meters.  It will also shorten travel length from Tangalan to Ibajay by about four (4) kilometers when passing through the verdant Campo Verde in the existing national highway.

This road network stretches along the long coastline north of the existing Ibajay-Tangalan national highway and runs parallel to the Sibuyan Sea coastline. /MP
