PNP To Accept Non-College Grads

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will soon open its door even to non-college graduates.

But Director General Alan Purisima, PNP chief, said the plan is only for those who will graduate from the government’s K to 12 education program which is now aggressively being pushed by the DepEd.

Purisima said the move is to level the playing field for the children of poor families who cannot afford to send them to college. ‘’But they have to pass all the examinations, including the entrance test that is being done by the Napolcom (National Police Commission),’’ said Purisima.

If their proposal is approved by Congress, Purisima said they will only provide a certain number of slots for the K to 12 graduates.

He said the K to 12 graduates will fill the slots for one of the elite forces of the PNP, the Regional Public Safety Battalion and Provincial Public Safety Company. Those units are in the frontline against communist rebels and criminal syndicates.
These two units seem to be the only assignments that do not require college graduate as their focus is more on combat operations.

‘’If they pass all the exams, they must finish their college degree in a certain period of time, otherwise, they will be disqualified,’’ said Purisima.

The specifics of the proposal like how many slots will be offered, time frame that K to 12 graduates must finish the college degree are still being discussed.

“This proposal is on the drawing board. We hope to finish and present it soon to Congress,’’ said Purisima. /MP
