Vigan Is Chosen One Of The
World’s 7 New Wonder Cities
The Senate this week adopted a resolution congratulating Vigan City in Ilocos Sur, for being chosen as one of the 7 New Wonder Cities of the World by the New7Wonders Foundation last December 8.
Sen.Lito Lapid introduced Senate Resolution No. 1053. Other senators who introduced similar resolutions are Sen. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara (Resolution 1057), Sen. Pia Cayetano (Resolution 1085), and Sen. Loren Legarda (Resolution 1130).
“Vigan City is declared as one of the New7Wonders Cities along with Beirut in Lebanon, Doha in Qatar, Durban in South Africa, Havana in Cuba, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and La Paz in Bolivia,” according to the resolution.
Out of the 1,200 cities nominated, Vigan is chosen by the New7Wonders Foundation as one of the cities to represent global diversity of human society.
Vigan City is also recognized as one of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s Heritage sites.
“The New7Wonders Foundation is a Swiss non-profit foundation that conducts global competitions among countries featuring their respective tourist destinations in order to preserve the world’s manmade and natural heritage sites,” the resolution added.
All nominated cities underwent a voting process which began last 2012 until the 7 Wonder Cities were announced last December 8, 2014. /MP
