The Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) under the Department of Agriculture (DA) will implement the rehabilitation of two farm-to-market road (FMR) projects in Toboso and Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.
Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala will lead the inauguration of the Brgy. Caduhaan-Sitio Aluyan FMR in Cadiz and the Sitio Magtuod-Vergara FMR in Toboso on April 30.
With a total project cost of P134,758, 000.00, the FMR in Cadiz City will benefit the production areas of 877 hectares (ha) planted to sugarcane, rice and corn.
Furthermore, the rehabilitation aims to increase the number of vehicles by 15 percent that traverse the road influence area for the first five areas, to reduce hauling costs of farmers by at least 30 percent, and to develop 100 ha for rice, 20 ha for corn and 50 ha for sugarcane production.
On the other hand, the rehab of Sitio Magtuod- Vergara FMR costs P47,237,000.00. This has a direct road influence area of 1,000 ha planted to sugarcane and rice.
Aside from the benefit of easy transportation, this FMR project is geared to expand the production area of at least 3 ha for muscovado sugarcane, 2ha for raw sugarcane, and one (1) ha for rice annually. Thus, increasing the average production of agri commodities by 50 percent before the end of 2019. /MP
