“Repujado” and “Mini – Exhibit (M–E) 2007 II” are now the two running exhibits going on in Museo it Akean, Kalibo, Aklan.
According to Ms. Sumra dela Cruz – Rojo, Museum Curator, Repujado is a 2 – woman show featuring the works of Ms. Carmen Lao Ang and Ms. Mary Eileen Delariarte Losoria. It opened on November 30 and remains open until December 15 for public viewing.
The Mini – Exhibit (M–E) 2007 II is an art exhibits featuring the works of 25 artists from 14 countries using piña paper material organized by Mr. Asao Shimura, according to Ms. Nynn Arwena Tamayo, Executive Director of AGMRMF.

‘Repujado’ A New Art Form For Aklanons

Metal Embossing is an art form that has been around for centuries. Metal embossing imparts luster, radiance, intriguing dimension and texture to metal. A variety of easy to use tools are used to push flat metal sheeting from the back, creating raised design. Other equally easy to use tools are used on the front of the metal to refine and define the edges of the raised areas. This is the process of embossing, known as “repujado” in Spanish and respoussage in French. A patina or antiquing medium can be applied on embossed designs to duplicate the look of age, giving the pieces an old and look of age.
One will see how to create texture, make cuts in metal, finish one’s project, and add embellishments such as mother-of-pearl precious stones accents. There are information in gluing metal cutouts to surfaces, transferring patterns and using rubber stamps, stencils and plastic mold as source for designs.
One will find ideas for variety of table types accessories, including boxes trays, napkins holders, plus frames for pictures and mirrors, wall pieces and traditional religious icons and to embellish scrapbook papers, cards and candles.
Due to the metal’s intrinsic qualities of durability and performance and after learning the simple techniques of metal embossing, one can create long lasting treasure to enjoy for years to come.
