RC Kalibo Holds Seminar STI Offers Scholarship

Some first termer Barangay chairmen who attended the Capabilities Enhancement Seminar pose for souvenir picture with some officers of RCK like PP Vady Marin, Rtn. Efren Abayon, Rtn. Kato Meren, PP Nolly Sodusta, PP Panski Rebuelta, PE Megs Lunn, PP Vic Santamaria, Rtn. Bing Santamaria, Rtn. Luis Francisco, Anns Bing Rebuelta, Gel Sodusta, Becky Morier and Nilda Marin.

Some 16 first termer Barangay chairmen attended the Capabilities Enhancement Seminar sponsored by the Rotary Club of Kalibo (RCK). It was held in the Rotary Livelihood & Training Center, Andagao, Kalibo, Aklan on Sunday, December 2, 2007.
As designed, the Seminar aimed to enhance the capabilities of the first termer Barangay Chairmen in local governance with special emphasis on Barangay Management. After some preliminaries like invocation by PP Panski R. Rebuelta, singing of the Philippines National Hymn led by Rtn. Efren Abayon and welcome message by RCK president More Morier, the new Brgy. chairmen started their studies.
They studied the pertinent provisions of the Local Government Code with Rtn. Yenyen Ibadlit and Rtn. Kato Meren who talked and interpreted with them the purpose, intent and spirit of the provisions of the Local Government Code. Yenyen Ibadlit and Kato Meren are both active practicing lawyers in Aklan.
In the afternoon, Atty. Niovady M. Marin, a retired regional trial court judge continued the discussion, interpretation and application of the Local Government Code in barangay governance.
Atty. Nolly Sodusta presided the open forum to clarify and explain further some matters pertaining to local governance such as barangay justice, budget and finance.
The seminar ended with the closing remarks of Dr. Vic Santamaria. Certificate of Completion was awarded to each participant.

STI Scholarship

In another development, Ms. Ezzra V. Eudela, chief operating officer of STI Kalibo announced the availability of five (5) slots of scholars under the Rotary Club of Kalibo – STI Kalibo scholarship program. The scholarships will be awarded to the sons or daughters of families which belong to the below poverty level but deserving students.
A scholarship committee is now finalizing the draft agreement between RC Kalibo and STI Kalibo. The applicant who will be awarded the scholarship will enjoy 100 percent free tuition fee beginning the first semester of the school year 2008–2009.
