The National Statistics Office (NSO), in cooperation with the Provincial Government of Aklan, conducted the 21st Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) Provincial Elimination at NSO-Aklan Conference Room on October 25, 2012.
The PSQ is an annual contest designed to assess the competency and skills of students in statistics as acquired from secondary education curriculum. It, also, aims to promote and instill awareness on the importance of statistics in all development-planning activities of the government.
Ms. Allyn T. Artates, of Aklan State University College of Industrial Technology (ASU-CIT), bagged the first prize after besting other seven (7) contestants from different colleges and universities in Aklan.
Ms. Artates is an alumna of the Regional Science High School for Region VI and presently taking up Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
Mr. Erwin P. Sucgang copped the second place of the Garcia College of Technology (GCT), while, the 3rd place went to Mr. Carl Joseph M. Oquendo, of the Aklan State University College of Industrial Technology (ASU-CIT). Mr. Sucgang finished his high school from Batan Academy, while Mr. Oquendo is an alumnus of Aklan Valley High School.
Winners received a trophy, cash prize, and special gift. They will represent Aklan in the regional competition slated on November 20, 2012.
According to Mr. Blas M. Solidum, Provincial Statistics Officer, the PSQ complements the celebration of the National Statistics Month in Aklan. It contributes to the advocacy in the use of statistics for evidence-based decision making.
Completing the list of participating schools for this year’s statistical quiz are Aklan State University-College of Human and Rural Resource Management (ASU-CHARMM), and STI College-Kalibo. /MP
