The total number of deaths registered in 2012 in Aklan reached 3,681. This figure is higher by 1.7 percent than the 3,621 deaths in 2011. This is the total number of deaths in Aklan after the National Statistics Office (NSO) in Aklan added the death reports the local civil registrars of the 17 towns of Aklan submitted.
This meant that 10 persons died everyday in Aklan last year. The municipality of Kalibo, being the town capital, registered the highest number of deaths at 1, 372 or 37.3 percent of the total deaths in the province of Aklan. There was an increase of 8.5 percent in the number of deaths in Kalibo a year ago, compared with 1,265 recorded deaths in 2011. Other municipalities with high number of deaths last year are the towns of Ibajay with 295, Banga with 280 and Malay with 205.
Lezo had the highest increase in number of deaths with 71 between the two periods in review. The municipality of New Washington posted the highest percentage drop in the number of deaths at 18.0 percent from 221 in 2011 to only 180 in 2012.
Meanwhile, in similar civil registry report earlier NSO received, the number of babies born in Aklan dropped to 4.7 percent as having 9,765 on- time births registered in 2012 compared to 10,249 registered in 2011. One baby was born every hours in Aklan in 2012, the report said.
The births and deaths data are generated from the civil registry documents submitted to the National Statistics Office by the municipal civil registrars from 17 municipalities of Aklan every end of the month. /MP
