NSO-Aklan Celebrates 73rd Anniversary

In commemoration of the 73rd founding anniversary of the National Statistics Office (NSO) the Aklan Provincial Office has slated various activities to highlight this year’s celebration on August 19.
 
Its theme is: “Handog ng NSO: 73 Taong Taos-Pusong Serbisyo sa Mundo.”
 
The celebration started on August 2 being declared “Red-Letter Day” in all NSO offices where employees held a general clean up in their workplace to remove unnecessary items that disrupt their work and arrange their files for easy location. Streamers were hanged.  
 
According to Provincial Statistics Officer Blas M. Solidum, it was a good start to launch the celebration to instill the importance of organized and orderly working environment to every employee.
 
A series of fora was conducted in different schools in Aklan to address various problems in civil registry documents especially birth certificate often confronted by students and teachers. 
 
As part of their contribution to environmental preservation and fight against global warming, a coastal clean up will be done in selected barangays in Kalibo in coordination with the local government units.
 
The celebration will culminate with a thanksgiving mass, “Hataw at the Park” and a program featuring NSO-Aklan’s milestones, trivia quiz and livelihood forum. 
 
NSO is the government’s major statistical agency responsible for collecting, compiling, classifying, producing, publishing and disseminating general-purpose statistics.  
 
Commonwealth Act No. 591 was signed into law on August 19, 1940 creating the Bureau of the Census & Statistics.  It became the National Census and Statistics Office in 1974 and was renamed National Statistics Office in 1987. /MP
