Happy Mother’s Day
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers. This wish includes the Aklanon, Filipino, Foreigners, and even the unwed mothers.
There are two streamers hanging along Roxas Avenue, Poblacion, Kalibo. One is at the end of Roxas Avenue toward Kalibo bridge. The other one is at Roxas Avenue and A. Mabini Street. The most visible and written in bold letters are: Venue – AKLAN STATE UNIVERSITY, Kalibo Campus, Date – May 18, and Time – 7:00 P.M. These words occupy about 9/10 of the area of the streamer.
At the left end of the streamer is printed “Tanduay First 5 Rock Royalty” logo which occupies about 1/10 of the area of the streamer.
I stopped and looked to find out what does ASU wish to convey to the public. The message is not clearly printed. I didn’t see the purpose of the streamer.
I called up ASU, Kalibo Campus and inquired what is the message ASU wish to convey to the public. I was informed it is the concert sponsored by Tanduay.
I found one good thing with the streamers. It advertises the already popular Aklan State University. While the streamer informs the public of the “Tanduay Rhum”, a liquor that if taken beyond the limit, will adversely affect the physical and mental condition of a person. Habitual drinking of liquor induces the occurrence of human diseases, especially in the liver. Police records also show most of the crimes committed are brought about by over drinking. Vehicular accidents too are cause by drivers influenced by liquor. Is Tanduay Rhum liquor? No doubt about it.
Schools like ASU are the instruments for the formation of desirable characters, good citizens and leaders.
If this method of outdoor advertising continues, it will develop among the public that the academe like ASU, Kalibo Campus favorably endorses the drinking of liquor.
In the field of advertising, this method is called “transfer device”. Schools like ASU, Kalibo Campus is the main venue is an instrument in the formation of favorable attitude, virtues, and values so that those who graduated from it are deemed to have developed in themselves desirable characteristics, good citizenship and leadership.
With that function, liquor specifically, the Tanduay First 5 wishes to get associated with an academic institution to show to the people that even schools do not impede drinking liquor.
At 10:00 o’clock in the morning, Thursday, May 10, I called up the ASU administration on the matter. I am still watching for their reaction.
Hit On The Lips
Sol B. Jesmundo reported to the Kalibo Police Station on Wednesday, May 9 that at about 5:30 in the afternoon on his way home, he met a certain Melvin Bernabe. Bernabe uttered to him, “Gin bastos mo asawa ko, gin hambaean mo nga boba”.
Suddenly, Bernarbe boxed Jesmundo who was hit on the lips twice causing to stumble down and became unconscious. He was unable to defend himself. He went to DRSTMH for medical check.
Jesmundo is 42 years old, married construction worker and a resident of Brgy. Estancia Centro, Kalibo. Melvin Bernabe is also residing in the same barangay. /MP
