International Body Awards Dayang, 39 Others


Devex, the world’s largest community of aid and development professionals, will honor Foreign Service Officer, Dr. Juan E. Dayang, Jr. and 39 other international development leaders in Manila who are 40 years old or younger, in appropriate rites on February 19 at the Zuellig Building, Makati City. 

Dr. Dayang or Jed, as he is fondly called by his peers and friends, is currently the Division Director  of the Office of ASEAN Affairs of the Department of Foreign Affairs. He will be honored with the Devex Manila 40 Under 40 award for his outstanding work in the international development community in the area of migration and development.

Among those who will be honored with him are Secretary Julia Andrea Abad, former chief of the Presidential Management Staff; youth leader and social entrepreneur Paolo Benigno Aquino IV; journalists Patricia Evangelista and Kara Patria David, and actor Dingdong Dantes. Select ranking government officials, corporate and  executives, and community leaders are expected to attend the event.

The Devex 40 Under 40 award highlights and celebrates the work of 40 young leaders in the international development community all under the age of 40 in cities around the world.

Following a public nominations process and rigorous review of more than 250 nominees, the awardees are selected on the basis of their influence on the development agenda and impact on development results in the Philippines and abroad.

Dayang, who was former consul at the Philippine Embassy in Seoul spearheaded the Financial Education of OFWs in Korea. He was recognized by Sunlife as Grand Winner in It’s Time Awards for his financial literacy advocacy.  He was also Special Assistant at the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs.

His doctoral thesis at the Australian National University (on an Australian Leadership Award scholarship) is titled “Defending the Heroes: Migrant Workers Protection by the Governments of the Philippines in Mexico.” He was also selected as Visiting Researcher at the Institute for the Study of International Migration, Georgetown University, in Washington, DC. 

Dr. Dayang will join the distinguished ranks of past Devex 40 Under 40 winners such as  Administrator Rajiv Shah, Cherie Blair Foundation for Women CEO Henriette Kolb, Google’s Jared Cohen and Obama Administration Senior Foreign Policy Adviser Samantha Power.

Following successful 40 Under 40 events in London in 2011 and Washington, D.C., in 2010, Devex is proud to have selected the Philippines as the first emerging country to host this event.
