DA Serves 321 Aklan Farmers During Gov’t Services Caravan

The Department of Agriculture RFU 6 has served a total of 321 Aklan farmers during the caravan of government services lead by the office of the ombudsman – Visayas.

The DA provided technical consultation on four banner commodities namely rice, corn, high value commercial crops and livestock. A majority of the Aklan farmers inquired on DA’s FIELDS program intervention.

The FIELDS program focuses on fertilizer, irrigation, education and extension, loans and agricultural credits, dryers and postharvest facilities and seeds.

As part of the DA 6 commitment to provide quality service to the Aklanons, Engr. Remelyn R. Recoter, regional technical director for operations turned over to Governor Carlito Marquez P1.4 million for farm to market roads (FMR) construction in the municipalities of Banga and Numancia, Aklan.

Director Recoter said the amount represents the 15 percent first trance release of the total amount of P10.5 million for the construction, rehabilitation and regravelling of various FMRs in the two municipalities.
Some Aklan farmers consulted on prevailing pests and diseases occurrence in their respective fields and on location specific interventions of the DA in the province.

Meanwhile, the livestock division has vaccinated 18 dogs with anti-rabies vaccine, and provided 36 free consultation and distribution of information extension communication materials to 35 livestock raisers and dog owners.

The high value commercial crops program also distributed assorted vegetable seeds to 117 farmers. They were also given technical assistance on how to grow "Pinakbet" vegetables.

The DA 6 contingent during the caravan of government services was composed of specialists in rice, corn, HVCC, livestock, climate change, soil fertility, farmers organization, agri-cultural information, and pest and diseases control. (JEEO/RAFID 6) /MP
