by ODON S. BANDIOLA

Some members of the Aklan League of Secretaries to the Sanggunian (AKLESSA) attend in Cebu City, March 6-9, 2013 the 4th National Executive and Board Conferences and Visayas Island congress of the Philippine League of Secretaries to the Sanggunians (PLEASES).

The said conferences coupled with a seminar on Cultural Heritage and Tourism will be held at the Crown Regency Residences, Cebu City.

To attend for SP Aklan are Secretary to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Odon S. Bandiola, Administrative Aides Merlyn Arceo and Richie D. Oloroso, and Secretary ll Jenet Suco.

SB Secretaries who confirmed their attendance are of Balete–Al F. Dela Cruz; Batan–Dennis Reyes; Libacao–Rey Orbista; and Madalag–Engr. Hannibal Cometa.

Such seminar for secretaries is in growing recognition of the cultural heritage and its conservation as shared responsibility at all levels of government, proponents and members of the community.

PLEASES said we are now gradually moving away from simply making an inventory of heritage resources to an integrated and interlinked approach to heritage management.

The organization further emphasized that heritage is more than a record of the past, rather it is becoming an integral part of the urban identity now and for the future.

Culture must be preserved, cultivated and must be used to promote tourism with sensitivity, PLEASES stressed.

The conference will discuss the topics as follows: Audio-Video Presentation on “Cebu City as Asean City of Culture” with the Best Practices of Cebu City by Cebu City Councilor Margarita V. Osmeňa as Speaker; Executive Director of Roman Aboitiz Foundation to speak on Cultural Tourism; Professor and Cebu Museum Curator Joebert Bersales to speak on Heritage Conservation; Melanie Ng of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry to speak on Eco-Tourism; while Cebu’s Provincial Tourism Officer will speak on Cebu Province’s Heritage and Tourism Practices.

Conference delegates are expected to tour the House Close to Nature in Talamban, Cebu City, Paseo sa Kabilin, Museo Sugbo, Gorordo Museum, Fort San Pedro and Magellans Cross.

The participants will be likewise feted to the Dancing Inmates of the Cebu Province Rehabilitation Center. /MP
