SEN.MARCOS BLAMES GOV’T NEGLECT OF AGRICULTURE
Senator Ferdinand“Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. has scored the government’s “import-oriented policy” on agricultural products and neglect of the agricultural sector.
“Sa nakaraang ilang taon ay walang ginawa para tulungan ang agrikultura at import na lang tayo nang import kaya naman napakamahal ng
bilihin sa palengke,” he said.
Marcos, Member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food said continued failure to improve the country’s agriculture sector and heavy dependence on importation has been one of the factors that is pushing up the market price of farm products.
Marcos urged the government to shift from massive importation to massive implementation of programs that would uplift the state of the country’s agricultural production resulting to enhanced harvest that will  push down the price of farm products and agriculture—based merchandise.
He said the government should ensure that agricultural products are at farm-gate price levels when sold in the market to make them affordable to consumers.
“One way of doing this is through a system where the participation of the middlemen in trading farm outlets  is minimized or regulated, if not totally stopped.”/MP
