Crimes in Aklan province dropped by 25 percent for the period January to November 2005 as compared to the same period of 2004, statistics released by the Aklan Provincial Police Office (APPO) showed.
Index crime recorded 247 cases as compared to 306 cases in 2004, 235 of which had been solved for a 95.14 percent crime solution efficiency, Aklan police director Supt. William Macavinta reported.
Out of 247 cases, there were 28 cases of murder, 31 incidents were homicide and 15 were rape cases. Crimes against property, which includes theft and robbery, significantly dropped by 40 percent in 2005.
According to Macavinta, there were 126 cases of non-index crimes recorded in 2004 compared to 75 cases from January to November 2005. The crime solution efficiency measly declined by 2.25 percent from a high of 97.39 percent.
“The aggressive patrol beats deployed in busy public places was our deterrent to the crimes,” the police director stressed.
Notably, rape cases surged by 66 percent from 9 cases in 2004 and murder cases slightly rose by 12 percent from 25 cases for the same period. “We have a monthly crime rate of 4.98 percent this year 2005 in contrast to 6.16 percent in 2004. This sharp decline is attributed to the positive approach of our police force to solve the crimes in Aklan,” Macavinta said.
