Prov’l Police Gets New Patrol Cars, Motorcycles

The Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) received four patrol cars and three motorcycles from the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6). "These will be used in the anti-crime campaign of the APPO", said Aklan acting police director Senior Supt. Benigno "Bong" Durana, Jr.
The Toyota Altis patrol cars and Honda 200 cc motorcycles were slightly used during the 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit in Cebu City last December 2006.
"The patrol cars for local police offices would be of great help to the mobility of cops as part of their efforts to intensify peace and order in Aklan," said Durana.
The four patrol cars – for APPO, Nabas, New Washington and Kalibo police stations – formed part of the 28 patrol cars given to the PRO-6 by the Philippine National Police to help augment its acute shortage of police vehicles.
"To boost their capability to patrol the streets and curb criminality, the PNP issued patrol cars and motorcycles to enhance the service and ensure faster response to the needs of the constituency by the police", Durana added. The vehicles were distributed to the various municipalities of Aklan deserving of vehicle assistance on February 19, 2007 in the APPO, Buswang Old, Kalibo, Aklan.
"This would improve the capability of our police stations to conduct more aggressive patrol operations and to reduce response time to calls for police assistance," the newly installed police director said.
The PNP currently has 7,500 ground vehicles nationwide in its inventory which consist of trucks, troop carriers, patrol cars, and motorcycles. (By Boy Ryan Zabal) /MP
