The joint team of DOH – Aklan representatives Eva. A. Taytayon and Filipina B. Mabasa; PHO Technical Staff Bella R. Villaruel, EPI Coordinator; and Nuela P. Zaldivar, HEPO II, conducted Orientation on Knock-Out Tigdas 2007. It was held on September 26, 2007 at Gov. Cabagnot Training and Tourism Center, Old Buswang, Kalibo, Aklan.
Dr. Emma T. Cortes, Provincial Health Officer II, delivered a very informative message. She welcomed the participants who are municipal health officers; public health nurses; SB members, Committee on Health; and SP member Jean O. Rodriguez, chairman of the Committee on Health. Dr. Maria J. Magpusao, medical specialist III, PHO Technical Division, discussed the background of Knock-Out Tigdas 2007 and Knock-out Tigdas Field Guide.
Knock-Out Tigdas 2007 is a sequel to the 1998 and 2004 “Ligtas Tigdas” mass measles immunization campaign. This is the second follow-up measles campaign nationwide to eliminate measles infection as a public health program. This door-to-door campaign is targeting an estimated nine (9) million children between nine (9) to 48 months old, regardless of immunization status. Any child older than this group age who did not receive measles vaccination in the past shall be vaccinated.
The campaign aims to reduce the number of children at risk of getting measles and to achieve at least 95 percent measles immunization coverage of all children born between October 15, 2003 to January 15, 2007. /MP
