Illegal Quarrying By The Beach?

Photo shows a pay loader as seen consistently by the residents of the area, digging and stock piling sand on the alleged quarry area.

Engr. Jonathan R. Salvador, a resident of New Washington, Aklan has strongly denounced what he calls “illegal quarrying activities” going on in New Washington.

The said quarrying operations, Salvador pointed out “had been continuously undertaken for the past several months along the shores of New Washington, Aklan facing the Sibuyan sea and right at the back of Atty. Edgar R. Peralta’s residence” who is the municipal mayor of New Washington, Aklan.

Salvador has written Aklan Provincial Gov. Florencio T. Miraflores requesting the governor to “look into this matter with utmost urgency in as much as such alleged illegal quarrying operations, if allowed to continue and transpire without hamper, would indubitably cause erosion and concomitantly endanger the lives, as well as the properties of residents in the said area”. The alleged illegal quarrying, according to Salvador grossly violates and seriously undermines the explicit provisions of Republic Act No. 7942. This is an “Act Instituting A System of Mineral Resources Exploration, Development, Utilization and Conservation”.  /MP
