Transport groups serving tourists and residents of the resort island of Boracay, Malay plan to put up a central terminal in mainland Malay following the anticipated congestion of Caticlan jetty port next year. Jesus Jingco Jr., business and marketing manager of Caticlan Boracay Transport Multi-purpose Cooperative (CBTMPC) Shuttle Van Group said the proposed Central Terminal at Tolosa compound in Brgy. Caticlan is classified as urgent so as to decongest the jetty port due to the entry of big transportation firms.
Caticlan jetty port is the main jump-off point to Boracay Island, the country’s top tourist destination. CBTMPC has 82 motorized pump boats plying the Boracay-Caticlan route. According to Jingco, the motorized pump boats of CBTMPC may unload and embark its passengers at the Tolosa compound, facing the resort island of Boracay to allow the operations of those transport business groups like Magsaysay Maritime Corporation (MMC), AMPO Shipping Lines and ROVI Shipping in the Caticlan jetty port. “The entry of fast craft vessels in Caticlan jetty port is anticipated next year. It would then be necessary to designate a centralized terminal for tricycles, L300 vans and pump boats in Caticlan to decongest the jetty port and for safety considerations,” Jingco stressed.
Aside from the roll-on-roll-off (RORO) vessels docking at the Caticlan jetty port, MMC will provide four steel-hulled fast craft, AMPO with two 220-seater sea craft, CBTMPC with its P2.3-million 70-seater fast craft and from ROVI Shipping Lines, a P2.5-million fast craft. Jingco said a consultative meeting will be conducted between the transport groups of Westmint Transport Association, Delmabel Tours and Paradise Travel and Tours on the proposed Central Terminal.
“The tricycles under the Malay Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (MATODA) had signified interest to join the Malay Central Terminal plans. This (central terminal) will also regulate the parking of transport vehicles in the national highway as embodied in the approved Municipal Ordinance No. 207,” he added. /MP mailto:madyaas_pen@yahoo.com
