Aklan Approves 134 LEP Scholars 265 Appeal For Inclusion


A total of 134 students are now enjoying the Ladderized Education Program (LEP) of the government coursed through the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) this semester in two schools.
TESDA-Aklan Provincial Director Edwin Villanueva also disclosed that 265 additional students who are currently enrolled, are appealing for inclusion in the program.
According to Villanueva, TESDA-Aklan is in the process of submitting the letter-appeals of the students to the regional office for inclusion as LEP scholars. The 134 enrolled students were endorsed by municipal mayors of Aklans’ 17 towns, Office of Congressman Florencio T. Miraflores, and Provincial Governor Carlito S. Marquez through certificates of endorsements coupons.
Under the program, a student who is enrolled for one semester to obtain a specific job qualification will enjoy a P5,000.00 scholarship. The school will then issue him a Certificate of Qualification. After which, he will undergo assessment test. If he passed, he will be awarded a Certificate of Competency, or NC2.
In Aklan, Panay Technological College (PTC) and the Aklan Polytecnic College (APC) offer ladderized courses. PTC offers Hotel and Restaurant Technology/ Management courses, while APC offers maritime courses.
Villanueva disclosed that at PTC, a student can obtain a job qualification for one semester. In the case of APC, however, a job qualification can be obtained by a student for 2 semesters. A student enrolled in APC, according to TESDA, will actually receive a total of P10,000 scholarship.TESDA-Aklan revealed the total number of certificates of endorsement distributed to Aklan’s local chief executives is not yet exhausted, and since the scholarship endorsements will expire in December, the privilege could still be awarded to students in the second semester.
Moreover, TESDA-Aklan bared nine (9) students enjoyed the Training for Work Scholarship Program in Aklan taking Caregiver courses.
As TWSP scholars, each student gets P15,000 assistance. After graduation, the school should arrange for the students’ employment abroad, provided that he/she passed the assessment test.(By Venus G. Villanueva) /MP
