Aklan Teachers Attend 2009 National Conference for SE

Some of the ten lucky Aklanon teachers who attended the 2009 National Conference for Science Education in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.


The Science Club Advisers Association of the Philippines (SCAAP) in cooperation with the Department of Education Center for Students and Co-Curricular Affairs (DepEd-CSCA), Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) and ABS-CBN–DZMM successfully conducted the 2009 National Conference for Science Educators last month. It was held in Bohol Tropics Resort, Tagbilaran City.

With the theme "Science and Technology: Meeting the Demands of Our Time," the conference aimed to achieve the following objectives: a. enhance the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of mentors utilizing break-through in science and technology; b. upgrade teaching performance of mentors to meet the demands in science and technology education; c. explore new ideas and discoveries in science and technology; d. adopt necessary values that focus on the application of new discoveries and break-throughs; and e. strengthen the cooperation and participation of science enthusiasts in worthwhile activities that benefit pupils and students.

The 10 lucky teachers of Aklan are privileged attending the said gathering of science educators. They believed that it would further equip them with the latest innovations in dealing young scientists who will soon rule the world.

More than 500 delegates from other provinces attended the conference. These include the 10 Aklan teachers who are Rosalie S. Ruance – Numancia Integrated School, Ellen A. Villegas and Salvacion R. Abad – Kalibo Pilot Elem. School, Dorothy G. Bautista and Connie M. Ambito – New Washington District, Joem Jimlon – Wadeford School, Alma Cawaling – Regional Science High School for Region VI, two others from the same school and Nilda Tumbokon of Kalibo Elem. School.

"Indeed, meeting the demands of our time is perfectly chosen," theme participants said during the closing program with the guest Angelo B. Palmones, ABS-CBN Executive Manager. /MP
