AGMRMFI Celebrates 35th Anniversary



Museo it Akean presented “Akean” (The Aklan Saga) in commemoration of the 35th founding anniversary of Archbishop Gabriel M. Reyes Memorial Foundation, Inc. (AGMRMFI). The celebration program was held at Martelino St., Poblacion, Kalibo in front of the Museo It Akean building. 

The program started at about 4:30 on Monday afternoon, October 29. With a very clear weather, gentle rain from heaven suddenly dropped, accepted as God’s blessing. Amidst the rain, the program continued as the Emcee, Ms. Melrose S. Lunn never hesitated to perform her job. 

Museo Escuela talent singer Gia C. Cocoy rendered the doxology followed by Mr. Jethro D. Pelayo who with his violin played the “Lupang Hinirang” and Aklan Hymn.

Dr. Rex M. Mendoza – president, AGMRMFI gave his welcome remarks mixed with AGMRMFI background and projects. Kalibo Mayor William S. Lachica was not available. He sent his representative who read his message. 

Aklan Vice Gov. Gabrielle V. Calizo – Quimpo in her message stressed the importance of celebrating Aklan Saga, history and culture. She recalled her contribution to the restoration project of Museo it Akean.  

Calizo-Quimpo gave emphasis to the needs and importance of holding exhibits such as the exhibits in Museo it Akean. 

The guest speaker was introduced by Ms. Marcela Reyes-Tinagan – vice president, AGMRMFI for Aklan operations. 

The guest speaker – Mr. Clemente D. Del Castillo is West Visayas representative to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. He is also a museum curator. Del Castillo stressed the need for museum in every city and municipality in the Philippines. According to him, museum is not only a repository of history, it is also the window of our arts and culture, of our soul which promote peace and understanding. 
On the other hand, Del Castillo also stressed the difficulties to hurdle in the establishment of museum in terms of funding, location, operation, and maintenance. 

He congratulated Aklan and its leaders for having put up and operated a museum which is one of the best in Western Visayas. 

Part I of the program was closed with the closing statement of Ms. Nynn Arwena G. Tamayo – AGMRMFI executive director. 
The cutting of ribbon followed as Part II of the program done by Mr. Clemente D. Del Castillo, Ms. Irene D. Gaston, Vice Gov. Gabrielle V. Calizo-Quimpo, and Kalibo vice mayor Madeline Regalado.

Ms. Sumra dela Cruz-Rojo gave the overview of the exhibits that feature Aklan History and Culture, piña and textile collections, enchanting Balete, talibong, bonsai, Aklan crafts and wood works. /MP
