Aklanons Participate In the ASEAN Conference On Male, Youth and HIV & AIDS Networks


The president of the Men Opposed to Violence Against Women, Inc.- Aklan chapter,(MOVE-AKLAN) Jones R. Arrieta is one of the seven members of the Philippine delegation to the ASEAN Conference on Male, Youth and HIV & AIDS Networks towards the Prevention of Gender-based Violence. The conference is held on November 15-16, 2012 in Manila Diamond Hotel, Philippines. This Regional Conference has the theme: “Strong hands stop gender-based violence, halt the spread of HIV & AIDS and end gender inequalities in the ASEAN!”

The Conference aims to: 1. Surface global experience and learn effective ways in designing, programming and implementing gender responsive actions in addressing gender based violence, HIV & AIDS together with men, youth and HIV & AIDS networks; 2. Present and examine existing models of addressing GBV, HIV & AIDS in the ASEAN region; and 3. Establish and strengthen networking as well as collaborative relationships among institutions and individuals, experts and consultants doing work on GBV, HIV & AIDS.

Mayor Wilbert Ariel Igoy of Malinao, Aklan, a founding member of MOVE-Aklan also attended the same ASEAN congress as an observer. 

MOVE-Aklan is awarded the most active chapter of MOVE Philippines Inc. It is an aggrupation of principled men who united together to end violence against women and pledged never to commit VAW, never to condone VAW and speak out against VAW. /MP
