MKWD Inaugurates, Blesses Its New Home

The Board of Directors, management and staff and employees of the Metro Kalibo Water District (MKWD) had officially transferred from its office at C. Laserna Street to its new, sprawling and elegant 4-storey building at Barangay Andagao, Kalibo, Aklan on Saturday, Sept. 28.

The Chairman, Local Water Utilities Administration, lawyer Rene C. Villa, Congressman Teodorico T. Haresco, Jr. of the Lone District of Aklan, Vice Govenor Gabrielle V. Calizo – Quimpo and Sangguniang Panlalawigan members Plaridel M. Morania, Harry C. Sucgang and Lillian Q. Tirol, together with MKWD Chairman of the Board, lawyer Edmund M. Peralta and MKWD General Manager Edgar Isada, staff and employees were present during the blessing and inauguration of the new MKWD building.

The lot costs Php7 million pesos, while the new building costs Php40 million pesos. The edifice construction was completed after 15 months using the fund from MKWD’s accumulated savings from its operation.

Today, MKWD is classified by LWUA as a Category B water district.     It serves the municipalities of Kalibo, Banga, New Washington, and Balete and some barangays in Batan. It has a total of 20,968 concessionaires.

Peralta dedicated the new edifice to its officials, employees, staff members and to its concessionaires.

Villa and Haresco lauded MKWD board and management for the phenomenal growth and stability of the water district. They assured their continued support to the water utility firm.

Vice Gov. Quimpo believes that the Oct. 28 weekend is providential to Aklan and the Aklanons. According to her, over the weekend, the Aklan Credit Surety Fund was formally launched by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to benefit Aklan’s micro, small and medium entrepreneurs. It was followed by the formal launching of a housing project in Lezo, Aklan by the Camella Homes, and then the blessing and inauguration of the MKWD building. (story and photo by Odon S.
