Livelihood Thru Indian Mangos, Squashes & Sweet Potatos

Have you ever been annoyed by Indian Mangos falling on your backyards, just rotting and creating an unsightly mess and unsavory smell? Did you ever know that those unsightly fruits can be a source of income?
On June 7 to 8, 2006, the Municipal Agricultural Services Division of Kalibo conducted a training seminar on Food Processing of Indian mangos, squashes and sweet potatos at the Kalibo Fish Processing Center in sitio Pudlon, Brgy. Mabilo, Kalibo. Some two (2) out-of-school-youths (OSY) or two (2) housewives from each of the sixteen barangays of Kalibo attended and participated in the said training seminar.
Resource persons from the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) assisted by the technical personnel from the Municipal Agricultural Services Division taught the OSYs and housewives on how to convert these fruits and root crops into pastilles, flans, kamote donuts, squash cakes and other food stuffs as livelihood sources in the barangays.
According to Mayor Raymar A. Rebaldo, this training is one way of empowering people in the barangays to provide for themselves alternative sources of livelihood. /MP mailto:madyaas_pen@yahoo.com
