The PNRC, Aklan Chapter

2006 & 2007 Accomplishments

Atty. Ronquillo C. Tolentino, chairman, Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) Aklan Chapter reported the accomplishments for the years 2006 and 2007 as follows:

1. BLOOD PROGRAM

The Chapter collected 584 units of blood in 2006. These were served to patients of the different hospitals in Aklan and to the neighboring towns of Antique. Mass blood typing were conducted to 828 persons. The chapter also conducted advocacy and mass blood donations to the different schools/colleges, and to LGU’s.

Aklan Blood Coordinating Council was organized with Dr. Maria J. Magpusao as President.

2. Disaster Management Service (DMS)

The Chapter organized 47 Barangay Disaster Action Teams and 47 Barangay Health and Welfare Teams from the three (3) Municipalities of Numancia, Nabas, & Buruanga, Aklan with a total of 717 volunteers through Project 143 (I Love You Red Cross). The Chapter also served 1,634 families, victims of Typhoon Senyang that hit Aklan last December 9-10, 2006. Rice, canned goods and used clothing were given them.

3. SAFETY SERVICES

The Chapter conducted Standard First Aid and Basic Life Support Training Courses to 959 graduates. During the Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival, the PNRC Aklan Chapter chaired the Health and Safety Committee of the Municipality of Kalibo. Meals for 50 First Aid Volunteers during the Kalibo Ati-Atihan were subsidized by the Kalibo Ati-Atihan Management Board. During the Feast of St. John the Baptist, All Saints Day and other special occasions in Aklan, the chapter put up first aid stations manned by Red Cross Youth Volunteers under the supervision of the PNRC Staff and First Aid Volunteer Instructors.

4. Red Cross Youth

The Chapter organized 25 Red Cross Youth Councils, JRCY, SRCY & CRCY from the different schools and colleges in Aklan. On October 14, 2006 the Chapter conducted its 6th Chapter Red Cross Youth Assembly, held at the ABL Sports-Complex, Kalibo, Aklan. A total of 859 students and advisers attended the said RCY Assembly with the biggest participation of the Red Cross Youth members. Gov. Carlito S. Marquez, Vice-Governor and Chairman of the PNRC Aklan Chapter Atty. Ronquillo C. Tolentino, and DepEd Supt. Victorina S. Laroza were the honored guests.

5. Social Services

The PNRC Aklan Chapter served 251 clients on different requests along this area, while on June 23, the chapter distributed four (4) wheelchairs to disabled indigent beneficiaries. The wheelchairs were donated by the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to the PNRC through the efforts of Chairman Richard Gordon.

6. Community Health and Nursing Service (CHNS)

On December 3, 2006 the chapter conducted HIV/AIDS Dissemination seminar to the students of Numancia Integrated School, Numancia, Aklan with 37 participants. On December 14, 2006 the chapter conducted AVIAN Flu seminar held at Aklan Training Center, Old Buswang, Kalibo, Aklan with 30 participants from the different towns of Aklan.

International Humanitarian Law (IHL)

On August 12, 2006 the Chapter conducted an IHL Dissemination/Information at the PNRC Headquarters, Kalibo, Aklan, participated by the different heads of Offices from the Local Government Units. A communication was also sent out to establishments which were using the emblem and logo of the Red Cross to stop the said use.

2007 Accomplishments

1. Blood Program (BS)

For 2007 the chapter collected 1445 units of blood equivalent to 650,250 cc. These were served to patients of the different hospitals in Aklan and to the neighboring towns of Pandan, Libertad and Sebaste, Antique. Through the joint efforts of the PNRC, Provincial and Municipal Governments a monthly Mass blood Donations were conducted. A total of 1733 persons were blood typed.

2. Safety Service (SS)

A total of 616 graduated in First Aid Trainings conducted by the PNRC Aklan Chapter and 149 graduated in Basic Life Support (CPR). First aid stations were put during the Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival, All Saints Day, Feast of Saint John the Baptist and other local activities.

3. RED Cross Youth (RCY)

The Chapter organized 40 Red Cross Youth Councils in the different schools and colleges in Aklan both public and private. The Aklan Chapter held its 1st Provincial Red Cross Youth Camp participated in by 593 Red Cross Youth Department, PNRC, Nhq., Manila.

4. Social Service (SS)

A total of 217 different cases were presented and served in the Chapter which sought immediate assistance.

5. Community Health and Nursing Services

During the 1st Red Cross Youth Camp, one of the lectures given was the HIV/AIDS Information Education and Dengue Awareness Campaign. A total of 639 participants attended the Dengue Awareness and 574 attended the HIV/AIDS Information Education.

6. Project 143 (I love you Red Cross)

The Chapter recruited 430 volunteers in 10 barangays of Aklan. In every barangay, 43 volunteers were recruited to form as the Red Cross Barangay Response Team in their respective places in cases of emergency.

7. International Humanitarian Law (IHL)

On August 12, 2007 the Chapter celebrated the International Humanitarian Law Day. The activities conducted were the Emblem Campaign wherein all ambulances in Aklan with a Red Cross logo were changed with a Green Cross stickers led by the Chairman of the PNRC Board of Directors, Atty. Ronquillo C. Tolentino and other members of the PNRC Board; IHL Dissemination/Information Seminar with a total of 243 participants; and IHL for Weapon Bearers seminar conducted at the PNP Headquarters, Camp Pastor Martelino, Kalibo, Aklan with a total of 57 policemen participants.

PARTIAL 2008 ACCOMPLISHMENTS

1. The Chapter sent 10 Red Cross Youth delegates from the Saint Gabriel College of Nursing, the Regional Science High School and Linabuan National High School, together with two (2) RCY Advisers, to the National Red Cross Youth Congress held at San Fernando, La Union in December 2007.

2. On May 8-12, 2008, eleven Red Cross Youths from the Aklan Inter-Faith Academy, Nalook Elementary School and the Regional Science High School, together with two (2) RCY advisers attended the Red Cross Youth Supercamp Philippines held at Camp Capinpin, Tanay, Rizal.

3. In May, 2008, the Chapter received from the International Friendship Project of the Japanese Red Cross Youth 600 units of school supplies for 600 poor elementary and secondary students for six public schools. Each unit contains a back pack, 5 notebooks, 3 drawing pads, 12 pencils, 5 ballpens, 2 erasers, 1 sharpener and 1 box of crayon. In addition to these, 60 basketballs and volleyballs for distribution to elementary and secondary schools were given. (with the report of Ms. Arcely P.
