4th PNP MOVE Congress

The 4th Congress of the Philippine National Police on implementation of Men Opposed to Violence Against Women Everywhere (MOVE) was held on August 11-14, 2015 at Greenleaf Hotel, General Santos City. Honored guests were Cong. Emmanuel Pacquiao and PNP Chief Ricardo C. Marquez.

MOVE is a civic Organization participated in by professional men from the bureaucracy business, academe, and industry to train, educate and empower women against sexual violence and discrimination by the opposite sex. There are seven pertinent laws that protect women against emotional and physical abuses which are: RA 6955-Mail Order Bride, RA 7877-Anti-Sexual Harassment, RA 8353-Anti Rape Act, RA8505-Rape Victims’ Assistance Act, RA 9262-Violence Against Women, RA 9280-Anti Trafficking in Persons Act, and RA 10364-Expanded Trafficking of Women and Children’s’ Act.

It should be recalled that MOVE Aklan is first organized in the entire Philippines six years ago. It annually observes a 13 day campaign from November 25 to December 12. Among its activities are radio/TV info drive, walk to end VAW, Governors’ Search for Best Barangay Vaw, Anti-Illegal Recruitment Forum, photo exhibit, holding of MOVE Congress and color run.

Based on PNP Aklan report for the period Jan-uary to November 2014, there were 45 specific cases of women violence under RA 9262 in a total of 68 cases or 68 percent incidence. Other related crimes are lasviciouseness-5 cases, one frustrated murder, 10 rapes, one attempted rape, and one concubinage. The above cases are referred to proper court for disposition.

SPO1 Michael D. Pontoy from Ibajay represented PNP Region 6 to the national assembly on MOVE. He was privileged to make a power point presentation on updated activities and program of MOVE Aklan. He is an awardee, 2014 Country’s Outstanding Police Offi-cer In Service (COPS). SPO1 Pontoy was elected as National Treasurer during the organizational meeting.
On August 11-14, 2015, SPO1 Michael D. Pontoy represented Police Regional Office 6 during the 4th PNP Men Opposed Violence against Women Everywhere (MOVE) nationwide held in General Santos City. MOVE, in principle, aims to take care and safeguard women’s right and maintains equality between men and women in terms of avoiding physical abuse, including mental, psychological and economic abuses imposed in the female gender and their children. Aklan Police Provincial Office has an only MOVE in Police Regional Office 6 and a pioneer in the entire PNP organization nationwide. During Opening Ceremony, Hon. Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao, Congressman of the Lone District of Saranggani Province was the Guest speaker. Police Director Ricardo C. Marquez, Chief PNP delivered his inspirational message during the 4th PNP MOVE Congress. SPO1 Pontoy reported and presented through a power point the MOVE practices of the Aklan PNP. The Election of Officers where SPO1 Pontoy Elected National Treasurer ended the 4th PNP MOVE Congress. /MP
