Kalibo Is 440 Years Old

Kalibo is 440 years old but it held its 7th Foundation Day Celebration on November 3, 2011. Kalibo was founded in 1571.


The celebration started with a thanksgiving mass held at the Municipal Lobby and the blessing of the Municipal bldg. and Magsaysay Park.


These were followed by a "Pasakalye", the 1st Mayor William S. Lachica Dog Show. The show featured all the breeds of dogs in Kalibo and nearby municipalities. Simultaneous with the Pasakalye is the blood letting activity.


The dog show selected and awarded prizes to the: 1. Best Dressed Dog; 2. Most Obedient Dog; 3. Best Askal Buddy; and 4. Kalibo Smart Dog.


Copies of a pamphlet about caring and loving pet dogs were distributed to pet dog owners. In the afternoon, a commemorative programme was held that started at past 4:00 o’clock in the afternoon even if the schedule was 3:00 o’clock.


Hon. Madeline A. Regalado, Vice Mayor of Kalibo did not only welcome the visitors and guests, she also told the audience a bit of history of Kalibo and how far Kalibo has progressed.


DepEd Kalibo I exhibited the arts and culture of Kalibo through folk dancing exhibition by both teachers and pupils. Indeed, DepEd Kalibo I is teachers and pupils of grace and skills.


However, DepEd Kalibo II went further more. Its presentations were varied which consisted of folk dances, vocal solo like "Maalaala Mo Kaya" accompanied by string instruments, vocal solo (medley) and ballroom dancing.


Hon. William S. Lachica, mayor of Kalibo spoke on the background of the foundation of Kalibo, the progress made and future programs.


Hon. Carlito S. Marquez, governor of Aklan, congratulated the municipal officials and the people of Kalibo for the progress made. Marquez spoke of the present state of Aklan. He dwelt more on his twin provincial program: Agriculture and Tourism. He also explained the welfare program like the Pangtawid Pam-pamilya Pilipino Program.


Marquez urged all the people and local government officials of the 17 towns of Aklan to perform their respective shares to hasten the progress of Aklan and the Aklanons.


Hon. Ariel O. Fernandez, Kalibo SB member, presented Resolution No. 2011–096 concerning blood donation. Mrs. Arcely P. Pelayo, PRC Chapter Administrator gave her response. in behalf of the PRC, Aklan Chapter.


Cong. Florencio T. Miraflores was also listed in the program to deliver his message but he was unable to attend.


Hon. E. Soviet R. A. Dela Cruz, Kalibo SB member, closed the program. Ron N. Bautista and Sharon D. Moises were the program hosts.


LGU Kalibo municipal chorale gave the invocation, sang the national anthem, and the Aklan Hymn. /MP
