by MEGS S. LUNN

We are saddened by the lost of our dear Filipino countryman the former Ms. Philippine-UK 1996 and 4th Runner Up of Mutya ng Pilipinas 1999 – Ms. Christine Dela Cruz- Heap. She died at her residence in Montana Bay, USA at the age of 38 on March 25, 2013. The news of her passing was relayed to her parents John and Chita Dela Cruz-Heap, a member of the Aklan Tri-Media who was in Kalibo, Aklan, Philippines by the time the news came about.

She is survived by her 11-year old son, Josh. Christine won the hearts of her fellow Filipinos when she represented the national beauty contest of Mutya ng Pilipinas in 1999. She won Miss Friendship. This Filipino beauty had lived a full life as she finished Communication Study at Nottingham Trent College with First Class Honors, learned skill in survival at Territorial Army where she trained for one year, surfed the white water rapids of the Zambezi in Africa with Operation Releigh. She was Equestrian in Caribbean Island where she lived for 12 years. She wrote in numerous magazines in the island and worked on some projects in the US before she died.

During her reign as Queen of Club (4th Runner-up) Mutya ng Pilipinas 1999, she visited hospitals and orphanage in Kalibo, Aklan, Philippines where the family maintains their residence. She also represented the Philippines to Singapore where she competed with 34 other candidates from all over the world. She was among the top 12.

We believed Christine has accomplished her mission. Aklanons grieve of your lost but you are remembered always. Condolences to the family with our deepest sympathy. The Aklan Press Club, Inc. joins the family in prayers that Christine may rest in peace.  /MP
