UP Pinay At Phi Kappa Phi Summit In US

Miss Ancilla Marie Inocencio, 22, a cum laude graduate of the University of the Philippines’s School of Economics in Diliman, Quezon City, was the lone Philippine delegate to the Phi Kappa Phi (PKP) Student Vice President Leadership Summit held on July 26-28, 2013  at the Louisiana State University in Baton  Rouge, Louisiana, U.S.A.

Ancilla Marie is the granddaughter of former Roxas City Schools Division Superintendent Artily D. Inocencio. Marie is now enrolled  at U.P.’s MA Economics program. She joined selected undergraduates and graduates representing 50 of the 300 PKP Chapters worldwide to engage in personal and organizational development, to learn about strategies for operating and maintaining active chapters of Phi Kappa Phi.

In addition, they underwent a one-day training called Leadership’s Catalyst, which is based on Philosophies about leading, inner work and connecting with others.

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897 at University of Maine with  Diance  G. Smathers as president. This Honor Society has over 300 chapters across the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Philippines. PKP is in all academic fields and professions., united by the same mission “to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education to  engage the community of scholars in service to  others.

The society inducts around 30,000 top students every year, provides academic, leadership and networks opportunities to promote academic excellence.

Among its famous members are former U.S. President Jimmy  Carter, former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and YouTube CEU and co-founder Chad Hurley.

The National Council of Students, formed in 2010, initiated this summit with the goal of strengthening the  core of the society – the connection and network of its student leaders.

Ancilla Marie Inocencio is the daughter of lawyer Andrew Inocencio and Arlene Baulita of Cainta, Rizal and Maayon, Capiz, and grand niece of Fr. Erno Diaz of Staten Island, New York, U.S.A. She was here in Maayon last May as muse of the annual Maayon Educational and Civic Association festivity. /MP
