The wonderful Salimuno Falls behind the mountain of Libang, Makato, Aklan. The breathtaking waterfalls enjoyed by the children of Makato.
Unpredictable climate, rising temperatures and unusual phenomena are engulfing the Earth today. It seems that nature’s generosity had come to an end. Are there still places where one can reflect and live life with nature? Of course there are, but those places are scarcely known to people. It is kept by the mountains itself. And since, our high school years was about to end, we decided to go on an outing to have an exciting adventure to enjoy and make our remaining months as enjoyable and memorable as possible.
After a drive of about 30 minutes from Poblacion, Makato, we reached Libang, Makato, Aklan. The place was not yet improved and developed because of the up and down rough road we have been through. Not even commercialized and industrialized because it pictures out what true nature looks like before trees all over the place, smell of the ricefields ready for planting, fresh air, peaceful environment, friendly smiles of inhabi-tants, and sweet sound of the chirping birds. Simple life and yet, satisfying.
Before we went to our destination, we logged first in their Barangay Hall to acknowledge our presence and to be guided by a native to prevent us from getting lost. Then we started our journey. We walked almost 2 hours up and down the slippery mountains, crossed mini rivers and eventually arrived to the place we desired to see. What a wonderful view to behold!
As I laid my eyes on the breathtaking waterfalls, all the tiredness of walking and trekking to reach this paradise vanished in a wink of an eye. I thought this is what they call the undiscovered paradise, the SALIMUNO FALLS in Libang, Makato, Aklan. I was enchanted of what I saw because it was the first time that I have come and found such wonderful creation. We had our lunch and were tempted to take a bath. We dived and made ourselves cool in its clear waters. Everyone seemed to forget everything, but laughed, enjoyed and savored these rare opportunity of being together because of our busy schedules in school. The water that flew through the rocks relaxed every nerve of our body and took away our stresses. So amazing!
That part where we took our bath is just a small part of the gigantic falls. We’re so curious and excited to see how the main fall looks like so we took risks and said yes into another adventure (we never expect to get into). We climbed huge and slippery rocks. Many of us slipped and had bruises, but it was okay as long as the purpose is to witness such unbelievably wonderful creation, still undiscovered. We reached the place at last where we saw the great falls falling its waters through huge rocks. We didn’t have a chance to climb at the very top of the falls for it is very dangerous to continue climbing. We just satisfied ourselves to a dreamlike paradise we have explored once in a lifetime.
Salimuno Falls adventure was such an unforgettable moment of my life. Even sleepy of tiredness and my trembling knees wanted to breakdown, still I have a smile painted on my face. This place is the best way to describe what nature is.
Despite of the many ecological problems our world is now experiencing, we still have something to do with it. However small our individual efforts may seem, we can make a huge difference. Let us help nature regain its beauty and gracefulness once possessed just like what Salimuno Falls picture out, the undiscovered paradise behind the mountains of Libang. /MP
