NDCC Releases P560,000 Cash
To Typhoon Victims

The National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) released P560,000 cash assistance to families of Typhoon Frank’s victims who either died or were injured. The money was released through the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council 6 and PDCC – Aklan.

Of the amount, P310,000 was distributed at P10,000 each to 31 beneficiaries who died at the height of Typhoon Frank, while 50 recipients who were injured got P5,000.00 each. The amount distributed for those to those victims during Typhoon Frank totaled P560,000. The cash assistance was distributed at the ABL Sports Complex on December 22.

Fifty-three Aklanons died when Typhoon Frank struck Aklan on June 21, 2008. They either drowned, or hit by falling trees and landslides. Most of the victims came from Numancia, Kalibo, Ibajay, Banga, New Washington, Malinao and Madalag.

The other municipalities had either 1 or two victims, while some municipalities had no casualties reported.

Roslyn Salazar of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office Kalibo, Aklan, who assisted Bartolome Palomar of the Office of Civil Defense in distributing the checks, said some beneficiaries are yet to receive their assistance due to the incompleteness of the papers required by the NDCC for submission.


Aklan’s Day Care Workers Get Cash Gift

Some 426 Aklan’s Day Care Workers (DCWs) are set to receive cash gifts from the Provincial Government of Aklan through Governor Carlito S. Marquez.

According to Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Elma Malbas, these Day Care Workers, as in previous years, will receive P1,000 each as part of the provincial government’s extended assistance to them during Christmas.

These Day Care Workers, Malbas said are also enjoying honoraria from their respective barangays and in most cases, are also aided by their municipal government.

Aklan has 422 Day Care Centers where DCWs either hold one or two sessions for pre-schoolers/beneficiaries per day, numbering around 12,072 children.Ibajay has the highest number of beneficiaries/pre-schoolers with 1,551 children followed by Libacao – 1,239, Kalibo, – 1,185, and Nabas, 1,000. The rest of Aklan municipalities had less than a thousand beneficiaries. /MP
