The State of Aklan Boy Scouting

The Boy Scouts of the Philippines, Aklan Council during the parade in the provincial jamborette held recently in Malay Elementary School, Malay, Aklan.



The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) Aklan Council held its 15th Annual Council meeting last week with Atty. Arturo V. Umbac as guest of honor and speaker.
The one day province-wide Boy Scouts activities consisted of opening ceremonies, business meeting, election of four members of the Board of Directors, fellowship luncheon, and recognition/awarding, and closing ceremonies.
Atty. Ronquillo C. Tolentino presided the whole day affair held on March 27 in the 3rd floor of the New Municipal Building of Kalibo. Kalibo Mayor Raymar A. Rebaldo delivered his welcome message to all the participants who are the members of the Boy Scouts, leaders and guests.
Atty. Arturo V. Umbac congratulated the members of the boy scouts of Aklan for their active participation in all boy scout activities in preparation to take over future responsibilities both in public and private offices. Umbac also congratulated the scouters and volunteer leaders for their untiring effort, time, and resources being spent for the development of young boys into future leaders of the country. Atty. Umbac is the BSP National Executive Board member.
In the business meeting, Atty. Ronquillo C. Tolentino gave the state of the BSP Aklan Council. In Aklan, the boy scout potential in 2008 was 63,655 boys of whom 20,000 were targeted. However, only 8,764 registered or 43.82 percent of the target.
The top three districts in scouting in Aklan for 2008 are Malay – first; Batan – second; and Numancia – third.
Among the top public secondary schools in boy scouts leadership training in this order are: Tangalan National High School (NHS); Calim-bajan, Tina NHS, Linabuan NHS; Catalino M. Prado NHS; Altavas NHS, Lupo Extension; Daja Sur NHS; Angas Integrated School; and Malinao School for Philippine Craftsmen.
Some active private elementary schools in scouting are River Knowledge; Aklan Catholic College (Elem. Dept.); I Learn Child Center and Boracay
Island Global Academy.
In year 2008, BSP Aklan Council has a budget of P1.4 million which was fully expended as reported by its council treasurer.
To fill up the four vacant positions in the Board of Directors which expired in 2008, election was held. Among the 12 nominees, Atty. Selwyn Ibaretta, Engr. Victory M. Fernandez, Mr. Ernesto Melgarejo, and Mayor Raymar A. Rebaldo were elected. The election of officers will take place in the next Board meeting that may be held this April.
The National Court of Honor recognized and awarded 125 scout leaders and volunteers for their loyal and meritorious services to the BSP, Aklan Council. The National Court of Honor was chaired by Atty. Ronquillo C. Tolentino with Dr. Reinalda I. Magdaluyo, Mr. Medsil C. Carillo, Mr. Ernesto F. Melgarejo and Ms. Leila P. Leonida–Pamatian – members.
They awarded 20 gold medals and certificates to 20 Boy Scout volunteer leader, 28 silver medals and certificates and 77 bronze medals and certificates. /MP
