Some 2000 Capiznons joined the Alay Lakad 2009 walk for cause held in Roxas City recently with this year’s theme, "LAKAD, KABATAAN, ITULOY ANG KAUNLARAN". Participants from four assembly points con-verged at the Villareal Stadium for a two-hour socio-civic program.
Roxas City Mayor Vicente B. Bermejo and Capiz Gov. Victor A. Tanco both acknowledged and praised the organizers of the "Lakad" headed by Dr. Victor Federico Aception of the Rotary Club of Roxas as over-all chairman of Alay Lakad 2009. Dr. Roberto Dante Corros, President, Alay Lakad Foundation, Roxas City Chapter, and Mrs. Cynthia D. Besana, Lead Agency (CSWDO) with the mayor himself as honorary chairman.
According to Dr. Corros, about P148,000 was generated during the "walk" plus the pledges of P100,000 each from Mayor Bermejo for the city government and Governor Tanco for the provincial government, or a total amount of P348,000.
Corros said, the funds raised are used to finance scholarships of selected out of school youths and operating expenses of the local Alay Lakad, Capiz chapter.
In praising the program, Mayor Bermejo said that for many years, the Alay Lakad Foundation has been consistent in providing assistance to its beneficiaries through its charitable programs. The educational fund of the Foundation has sent to school countless individuals who would had been unable to ensure quality education. This is merely an indication that as country weathers the many crises that arise, more and more people are also willing to extend a hand and contribute something to alleviate the situation of our communities.
The city executive congratulated Dr. Corros for his dedication to the cause and objectives of Alay Lakad during his term and Dr. Salivo Llanera, Alay Lakad incoming president, who will surely handle the same fervor for this noble cause. Sulong Roxas City. /MP
