EQ Launches Bid For Mayor


Retired General Efren "EQ" Quimpo Fernandez launched his bid for Mayor of the capital town of Kalibo recently.

Running under "Grupong Handum it Kalibo", Fernandez believes he can deliver Excellence and Quality Leadership.

EQ’s running mate for Vice Mayor is veteran lawyer Immanuel "Noli" L. Sodusta, who is presently the president of the Board of Directors of Aklan Electric Cooperative (Akelco).

Fernandez said the roster of their ticket’s candidates is already complete. Among others who are joining the slate for SB Members are lawyer Ervie Taytayon, broad-caster Jodel Rentillo, Regie Bongabong, Freddie Jizmundo, Edgar Suerte Felipe, Police Senior Inspector Bert Melgarejo and Police Inspector Gudelio Morales.

His bid is supported by various sectoral groups who have been pushing for Kalibo to become a city.
Fernandez served as Executive Director with the rank of Undersecretary of the Dangerous Drugs Board. He was formerly, Senior Deputy Director, Philippine Center for Transnational Crimes; Deputy Director General, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency; Director PNP Narcotics Group; Director, PNP Western (Manila) Police District; and Director, Criminal Investigation & Detection Group.

He also served as Regional Director of Eastern Visayas Police Office and Inspector General of PNP. His present positions include the following: President and CEO, Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund, Inc.; Founder and Chairman of the Board, 3rd Alert Security and Detective Services, Inc.; Founder and Chairman of the Board, Tru-Check Medical and Diagnostic Center, Inc.; Chairman and President, Fernandez Realty Development and Management Company, Inc; Chairman of the Board, Trade Galore International, Inc.

He is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy Class 1971. He holds degrees in Bachelor of Laws and Masters of Public Administration. He is presently pursuing Masters in Business Economics at the University of Asia and the Pacific.

EQ is the son of the late Emiliano Yeban Fernandez and Estelita Estrada Quimpo of Estancia, Kalibo. Married to Evangeline Flores Lagac, they have three children who are Charry Mae Ugot, Efren II, and Efren Andrew.

Veteran Lawyer For Kalibo Vice Mayor


Lawyer Immanuel "Noli" Sodusta, a veteran lawyer decided to run for Vice Mayor of Kalibo. He filed his Certificate of Candidacy because he dreamed of contributing to the development and growth of Aklan’s capital town of Kalibo.

Sodusta is the running mate of mayoral bet Retired General Efren "EQ" Quimpo Fernandez under the local banner "Grupong Handum it Kalibo" with a battle cry for Excellence and Quality Leadership.

Sodusta is presently the President of the Board of Directors of Akelco and Director/Legal Counsel of the Rural Bank of New Washington.

As a legal luminary, he served as Governor of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines –Western Visayas (2003-2005), Senior Deputy Director for Legal Aid of IBP National (2006-2007) and President of IBP Aklan Chapter (1997-1999).

As a community leader, he served as Assistant Governor of Rotary District 3850, President of Aklan Kalantiao Jaycees and past president of Rotary Club of Kalibo. /MP
