ASU’s WESVARRDEC’s First Outstanding PMA
The Aklan State University (ASU) bagged the First Most Outstanding Partner Member Agency (PMA) Award in Techno Gabay Program Imple-mentation of the Western Visayas Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESVARRDEC) at Hotel del Rio in Iloilo City in December 2009.

The award was given in acknowledgment of its exemplary monitoring of the performance of all Farmers’ Information and Technology Services (FITS) Centers under its supervision in compliance with its annual reports, work and financial plan.

Dr. Benny A. Palma, ASU President received in behalf of the University the prize of P10,000.00, trophy and certificate of recognition during the Fourth Quarter Strategic Meeting of WESVARRDEC at Hotel del Rio, Iloilo City in December 2009.

The award was achieved by the University through the untiring effort of the ASU Techno Gabay Team led by Dr. Clyde G. Abayon with Dr. Elsa I. Abayon, RTWG Representative, Dr. Lelisa J. Teodosio, RMIS Representative and Ms. Sally R. Villasis, RACO Representative.

FITS Centers assisted by ASU are Banga, Ibajay, Nabas, and Altavas in Aklan, and Libertad in Antique.

The search for Outstanding PMA in the Region aims to honor and recognize the contribution of the prime movers of the attainment of the Consortium’s Program, reported Sally R. Villasis of ASU-ECS.

ASU: The Center of Development in Agriculture

Not contented with the first award, ASU also walked away with another award as the Center of Development (COD) for Agriculture in Western Visayas from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

The University President, Dr. Benny A. Palma and the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Environmental Sciences (CAFES) Dean, Dr. Marilyn E. Romaquin, received the Award of Distinction for ASU on December 21, 2009 at the Higher Education Development Center, Diliman, Quezon City.

As a COD, ASU will receive funding assistance of P2 million per year for three years effective February 27, 2009 to February 27, 2012.

The COD citation is the premier merit given by CHED to higher education institutions (HEIs), both private and public, which have demonstrated the highest degree or level of standards along the areas of instructional quality, research and publication, extension and linkages, and institutional qualification. These areas served as the criteria for evaluation.

Moreover, CHED also cited ASU as a National University of Agriculture for Region 6 through CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 18, Series of 2009 released on June 9, 2009. This result is in accordance with the pertinent provisions of RA 7722 (Higher Education Act of 1994), RA 8435 (Agriculture and Fisheries Moder-nization Act of 1997), and by virtue of Commission En Banc Resolution Number 221-2009 dated May 18, 2009 identifying Universities and College of Agriculture and Fisheries (NUCAF) under the National Agriculture and Fisheries Education System (NAFES), reported Sally R. Villasis of ASU-ECS.
