ASU Favors One Year More In Education Course

The Aklan State University (ASU) is eyeing an additional one year for their students who are taking up education courses.

Dr. Benny Palma, ASU Officer In-charge said that they consider their plan as urgent with the end-goal of making their students become qualified in the European market.
"The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has this study showing that our teachers are having hard time in penetrating the European market because of their poor competitiveness. With this in mind, we are planning to extend one more year in our currently four-year education curriculum so our students would become professional teachers," said Palma.

The DOLE study has been complemented by another study of the ASU where education students need to do practice teaching for one year to enhance their experience in the field.

"Based on the study conducted by one of our researchers, the one year practice teaching of our students enhances their capabilities," Palma said.

Aside from the education course, the plan of extending one year will also be possibly implemented in other courses. /MP
