Marquez Rejects Casino Proposal In Caticlan

Aklan Governor Carlito S. Marquez has rejected the establishment of a casino in the 2.6-hectare reclamation project at the Caticlan Jetty Port.

According to Niven Maquirang, Caticlan Jetty Port administrator, the Aklan provincial government has received proposals from different firms for the establishment of a casino but Marquez rejected them.

"Governor Marquez does not want to have a casino in Caticlan," Maquirang said.
For several years, some gambling firms have been seeking clearance from the Philippine Amusement Games Corporation (PAGCOR) to invest in casino in this Boracay resort island. These firms pointed to more revenue collections for Boracay.
It was not only Marquez who rejected the proposed Casino in Caticlan, the Catholic Church and several stakeholders objected against the project as well. /MP
