NVC Holds 63rd Graduation Program

The Northwestern Visayan Colleges held its 63rd Annual Commencement Exercises with Hon. Eduardo U. Escueta as its guest and graduation speaker. The graduation ceremony was held in the NVC – CSQ Auditorium, Capitol Site, Kalibo, Aklan on Thursday afternoon, March 31.

Some 315 graduates received their college diploma from Atty. Allen S. Quimpo. Of this number, 24 graduated with honors led by John Michael S. Recto who finished BS Criminology (Cum Laude).

The BS Criminology course got the biggest number of 79 graduates. Other courses with the number of graduates follow: BS in Hotel & Restaurant Management – 36; Bachelor of Science in Education – 35; BS Commerce – 34; Bachelor in Elem. Education – 33; BS Computer Science – 26; Bachelor of Arts in Mass Com. – 22; and AB English – 3.

The three (3) graduates who completed the two year course in Aircraft Maintenance are now gainfully employed. They were unable to attend the graduation ceremonies. Other graduates in two year course are Associate in Restaurant and Hotel Management – 20; Computer Secretarial – 12; and Associate in Sanitary Science – 2. There were eight who completed masteral course: one in Master of Arts in Educ. Mgt.; and seven in Master In Public Administration. They are now gainfully employed. Earlier, NVC also graduated 56 4th year High School students, 33 Grade VI, and 27 in preparatory.

The guest speaker, Hon. Eduardo U. Escueta is a very prominent lawyer. He is now a commissioner, vice chairman and chief executive officer of the National Police Com- mission. As introduced by Dr. Dennis I. Ibutnande, Dean, College of Criminal Justice, Escueta is a scion of a distinguished family from Tiaong, Quezon.

In his speech, Escueta discussed the advantages and responsibilities of college professionals. He encouraged the graduates to follow the right direction in their lifestyle in order to succeed and prevent failures.

Escueta also invited not only the graduates of Criminology, but also graduates of other disciplines to pursue a career in the national police. "In the police organization, there are lawyers, accountants, nurse, and even priests", declared Escueta.

James T. Sotomel, BEED Cum Laude presented the "petition for graduation". Their graduation was confirmed by Ms. Melrose Q. Martelino – chairperson, NVC Board of Directors.
