DTI – Aklan Celebrates Consumer Welfare Month


October is declared consumer welfare month. Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 1098 dated Sept. 1997, the month of October of every year is declared "Consumer Welfare Month". The lead agency for this year’s Celebration is the Department of Agriculture (DA). This year’s theme is, "Sapat, Ligtas at Abot-kayang Pagkain Para Sa Lahat".


In celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month this October, the Department of Trade and Industry – Aklan has line-up several activities to wit:


• Hanging of streamer in front of DTI office from 01-31 October;


• Info Campaign on Consumer Rights, Responsibilities & Fair Trade Laws in coordination with PIA-Aklan and local radio stations;


• Forum on Con-sumerism and Product Standards and Safety Showcase in ACP Centerpointe, Kalibo, Aklan on 12 October;


• Price monitoring of basic and prime commodities to include Christmas lights;


• Training on Proper Handling of Consumer Complaints on 26 October; and


• Mounting-up of information booth on DTI advocacies on consumerism in the Aklan Trade Hall on 24-28 October in celeration of National Statistic Month.


The resource persons during the forum will be from the DA, Dept. of Health, Dept. of Natural Resources, and DTI. On the other hand, the exhibitors in the standards showcase are the local dealers based in Kalibo, Aklan. Invited guests are Gov. Carlito S. Marquez, Mayor William S. Lachica of Kalibo and Brgy. Captain Mary Jane A. Rebaldo of Pob., Kalibo. /MP
