ASU-CIT/Brgy. Pook SMART Program

The Aklan State University – College of Industrial Technology (ASU-CIT) in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Kalibo and Barangay Pook, Kalibo, Aklan launched the extension project titled "Service Mobilization through Alternative Relevant Technology" (SMART) on November last month at ASU-CIT, Kalibo, Aklan.

The launching and signing of the Memorandum of Agreement were attended by the officials of Barangay Pook led by Barangay Captain Ronald L. Marte and the faculty and staff of ASU-CIT.

Prof. Loneto R. Berlandino, ASU-CIT Executive Director, in his welcome remarks, expressed his appreciation for the support extended by the program partners.

ASU President, Dr. Danilo E. Abayon was represented by Dr. Anna Mae C. Relingo, Vice President for Research and Extension. In her message, she emphasized the important roles that the partners play in making Barangay Pook more progressive in 2014.

Hon. Marte said the program is very timely and responsive to the needs of the residents of Barangay Pook. It complements with the Pook Tourism Development Project of the Provincial Government of Aklan.

SMART is conceptualized to address the request for assistance of Barangay Pook in improving quality of life of its populace specifically the out-of-school youth and unemployed adults, women, and men said Necitas Z. Rios, ECS Chairperson.

Educational advocacy, tourism development; cooperative and livelihood development; and agriculture, fisheries and environmental management comprise the program, Rios added. (by Sally R. Villasis) /MP
