Bishop Advincula Is New Archbishop Designate For Capiz

Bishop Jose F. Advincula of San Carlos, Negros Occidental is designated archbishop of the archdiocese of Capiz vice Most Rev. Onesimo C. Gordoncillo, D.D. incumbent archbishop of Capiz who will retire this year.


This was disclosed by Gordoncillo himself in a meeting held on Nov. 10 during the Christ the King celebration held on Nov. 20 in this city.


Gordoncillo said Pope Benedict XV1 has appointed the 59-year-old Bishop of San Carlos to replace him (Gordoncillo) who has served the archdiocese of Capiz for the past 25 years. While he was in Rome recently Gordoncillo had an audience with the Pope together with Rev. Fr. Edsel Delfin, a Knight of Columbus scholarship grantee for three years in Rome. Delfin hails from Roxas City.


The amiable and humble retiring archbishop will remain in Capiz to head the archdiocese as apostolic administrator with powers of an ordinary bishop until Advincula’s investiture.


The new archbishop designate was born on March 30, l952 in Dumarao, Capiz. He was ordained priest on April 4, l976 and his Episcopal ordination on Sept. 8, 2001.


Advincular finished high school at St. Pius X Seminary, Roxas City, in l968 and philosophy in l972. He finished theology at the University of Santo Tomas Central Seminary, Manila in l976; JCL/JCD (candidate) from UST, Manila/Rome (l986); and MA IN Education (Guidance & Counselling), De La Salle University, Manila, in l983.
